Who Comes To Camp?

Age doesn’t matter at camp. Especially when it comes to making new friends from around the world, playing giant Jenga in the grass, falling in love, playing music at the talent show, taking advice under the stars or sharing a game of Capture the Flag. It’s actually against the rules to reveal your age or ask someone how old they are at Camp Grounded. The mystery and non-importance of age allows us all to connect on a deeper level, play harder, and learn from each other regardless of assumed experiences, bias in the ‘workplace’, or measured time we’ve spent on this planet.

But for those that really want to know…
Our average camper is 34 years old, with solid pockets of campers in their 20’s, 40’s and 50’s. Our oldest camper was 71 (she came with her two daughters) and our youngest was 19 (whom came with his best friends and brothers). Camp is truly a cross-generational experience where people not only forget what time it is (because there are no clocks), but also forget how old they are.

Over the last few years, we’ve had campers come from over 40 different states and twelve different countries around the world. Although a majority of our campers come from California, New York, Texas, Oregon, Georgia, and North Carolina, more than 1/2 of our campers fly in from around the United States and the globe for each camp. Expect to meet campers from the USA, UK, France, Switzerland, Singapore, China, Puerto Rico, Bulgaria, Mexico, Ireland, Canada, Japan, India and Hungary.

Professional Background

Our campers are everyday people. They are students, CEO’s, musicians, artists, bankers, writers, dancers, Wall Street investors, architects, developers, clowns, bakers, actors, servers, managers, angel investors, farmers… the list goes on. Some have millions in their bank accounts, while some come to camp on scholarship (work-trade), however they all sleep in the same bunk-beds, breathe the same crisp nature air, and share the same fire that melts our s’mores

It’s important to note – talking about work is strictly prohibited at Camp Grounded. Campers use nicknames and are asked not to speak with others about their careers, work or anything related to a J-O-B back in the “default world.” This gives us all the time and space needed in our fast-paced world to step away from the roles we play in everyday life, and instead play outside the box we typically find ourselves in, connect with fellow humans as humans, and learn more important things about one another – like, “what was your favorite meal that your grandma made you growing up?,” or “when was the first time you fell in love?,” or simply, “do you want to paint my face?” Camp is a place to make friends based on laughs, absurd competition, acroyoga skills. sing-a-long harmonies, and random conversations that have more to do with who you are than what you do.

This is Summer Camp

Let’s be clear. This is not a conference, networking event or work summit.

This will not be a meet-up opportunity to make contacts that further your career. There will be no cocktail hour or reception for anyone to explain what they do, play the “we know the same people” game, or try and figure out how they can launch a company together.

No VIPs, headliners, though-leaders, glampers, keynotes or wristbands. No backstage access, or any backstages (while we’re at it). Everyone is equal.

Instead, we create an atmosphere to celebrate personal freedom, creative thinking, liberation from technology, true vacation from our j-o-b, and a space from the working world where we can all once again be human. Friendships at camp are based on real-life connections, how good you are at capture the flag or face-painting, the best late night bunkmate jokes,
and the present moment.
This is just like the camp you went as a kid… only designed for adults. All Inclusive, all ages (18-80), and all demographics. It’s about who you are, not what you do for a living. 100% IRL (in real life) Experiences. No screens. No Filters. No Big Data. No agenda. No bullshit.
Just good old camp.
