We would not be where we are today without the amazing continuous support we have received from Klean Kanteen. We are honored to say that we are partnering up with Klean Kanteen for the third summer in a row. Together, we’ve got one mission in mind: Keep our campers hydrated with the same bottle for gulps and gulps to come.
Klean Kanteen single-handedly changed the water bottle game. Back in 2004 you couldn’t find a stainless steel water bottle anywhere in sight. If you wanted H2O on the go, you had to use some plastic to sip it down. In response, Klean Kanteen came up with a safe, healthy, lightweight, reusable bottle free of BPA and other toxic substances. Yay!
Today, as a certified B Corporation, Klean not only creates the highest quality reusable products on the planet, but works hard to bring benefit to the people and places they touch—and they do everything they can to keep single-use waste from trashing the world.
Last year, Klean launched the Bring Your OwnTM Project to amplify its mission, share a passion for eradicating single-use waste, and shift habits from to-go cups and bottled water to reusable products that last a lifetime. Their innovation and commitment to the planet doesn’t end there. Now you can find bottles and to-go containers for all sorts of beverages and even food. You’ll never need a plastic container again! We’re excited to expand our Klean Kanteen offering this year too. Head on over to the Canteen to pick up your own custom Camp Grounded water bottle and tumbler for all of your coffee, tea, kombucha, and water needs.
We don’t just put anything in our bellies at Camp Grounded. We’ve got the highest of standards for what our campers eat and drink when they’re playing with us in the woods. You can’t get the necessary fuel for stilt walking, campfire sing-a-longs, and Color Wars from just any plain snack. You’ve got to have the real thing; food and drinks made with real ingredients with real benefits. We’re proud to say that we partner with some of the best companies in the market to make sure our Canteen is stocked with the greatest snacks around.
While we have three nourishing meals a day at camp, you may get a little hungry between them after running around during Zorb soccer, swinging across the lake on a rope swing, or spending time bonding with two new friends on a hike. We’re partnering with KIND Snacks to have their granola and bars readily available at the Canteen for anyone who needs a little fiber and protein-filled somethin’ to hold them over. And though the snacks are filling, they aren’t filled with artificial mystery ingredients. KIND only use all-natural whole nuts, fruits and whole grains in all of their delicious treats, which now includes 22 bars and 6 Healthy Grains snackable clusters.
We love KIND because we love what they stand for. The KIND Movement is the company’s mission to spread and celebrate kindness. And what better place to promote kindness than at camp? Add a KIND bar to a handwritten note of gratitude or attach one to typewritten love letter in someone’s inbox. KIND celebrates kind acts with their #kindawesome promotion. If you see someone doing something kind, you can send them a free KIND snack.

We’ve been doing this camp thing for a while now and have learned that not everyone has the energy equivalent to the Energizer Bunny. We’re partnering up with Guayaki Yerba Mate again to bring our campers some delicious, sparkling yerba mate at the Canteen. This South American nectar will keep you going from sun up to sun down.
The “drink of the gods” has the strength of coffee, the health benefits of green tea, and the euphoria of chocolate. Unlike tea, yerba mate has a low tannin content so it can be strong like coffee with out becoming extremely bitter. Unlike coffee, yerba mate is not oily and acid forming, so it is less likely to cause stomach acid and jitters. Add 24 vitamins and minerals, 15 amino acids, an abundance of antioxidants, and you’ve got the essential nutritional value to truly come to life.
The folks over at Guayaki are an amazing bunch. They’re dedicated to helping the planet and people through their culture and tradition of sharing. We truly appreciate that they’ve shared enough bottles and cans to keep our campers refreshed all weekend long.
If you want to take a look at all the things Guayaki does to make this world a better place, head on over to their website: http://guayaki.com
Eating 15 cookies may seem like a dangerous and excessive way to satisfy your sweet tooth. Don’t worry, we’ve got you covered at the Canteen with Muffin Revolution‘s delectable muffins. These muffins may taste sweet but you won’t find any sugar in them. Instead, Muffin Revolution’s gluten-free, Paleo treats are made with nuts (not flour!) and sweetened with dates. They’re packed with fruits and veggies such as apples, bananas, blueberries, carrots, cherries, oranges, and yams.
These are the real deal, trust us. You’ll find lots of protein and Omega-3s and zero artificial nonsense. When you munch on a Banana Bam Bam, 24 Carrot Gold, or a Cha Cha Cha, you’ll be full and happy until that dinner bell rings.
We all know growing up is hard. That’s why we’ve created a summer camp for adults. AdWeek recently explored the millennial phenomenon of “adulting” and the ways in which millennials escape from the the stresses of being so-called grown-ups. There’s a need for relaxing, crafting, and playing and AdWeek recognized that we fill those needs at Camp Grounded.
We provide something special here. When you turn your phone off and cozy up around a campfire, the burdens of work, relationships, and just about everything else seem to go away. “The camp’s popularity has grown because people want to unplug, and they want that analog, nostalgic experience,” said Levi Felix, founder of Camp Grounded.
We’re weeks away from headed to the woods and hope you can join us!

Camp would be just a little too quiet if we didn’t have some falsettos, fiddles, and funk to fill the air. We are SO excited to have some of our most talented musical friends play in the woods with us all summer. Each of our Camp Grounded sessions is stacked with incredible talent that is going to create the soundtrack you’ll be humming for months to follow. So shine your dancing shoes and get ready to boogie and be blown away by what we have in store for you.
If you joined us this year at Unplug SF or LA, then you’ve definitely been a part of a raucous Whiskerman dance party. These guys are some of our favorites! They’ll be causing mischief all weekend long at California Session I and plan on making a spooktacular appearance at our camp dance during Session II.
Their unique music style can have you dancing your heart out one song and cuddling up with a camp crush during the next. Lead singer Graham Patzner, aka Rambo, gives you a glimpse into his soul through his powerful lyrics and compositions. The combo of lyrics and awesome musicianship by the rest of the band can really transcend you to a different place.
The Wild Reeds
California Session I campers prepare to be enchanted by this magical group of musicians. This LA based band has joined us for a handful of Camp Grounded events, but now it’s time for them to be a part of the real deal. The Wild Reeds‘ beautiful harmonies will be echoing throughout the redwoods all weekend and we cannot wait.
2016 has been a great year for this mesmerizing band. Their ethereal folk meets country sounds have been featured on NPR’s Tiny Desk Concert Series and will be heard at festivals all over the country at this summer. We’re excited to be on stop on their awesome summer adventure.
Papa Bear has been living and breathing camp since he was a young boy. He knows how to ignite a campfire with a sing-a-long classic and can turn a quiet dining hall into an all camp dance party. This summer he’ll be gracing us with his wide collection of music in California and New York.
His performances are sure to pull on your heart strings and put a giant grin on your face. Whether he’s playing a bluegrass tune or a jazz melody, each song is a joyful sound filled with a little bit a comedy, a bunch of soul, and a whole lot of talent. Papa Bear’s shows are famous for their full audience participation. Get ready to sing along to all of his hits in the tea lounge or late night at the Canteen . After a big group “Oh Luminous Moon” you’ll be wanting to share in a big (consensual) bear hug with everyone.
This nickname speaks for itself because boy does this guy have a voice?! Camp Grounded’s favorite camper turned superstar Brett Hunter aka Mouthful has been singing around our campfires for years. After leaving his 9-5 to pursue his musical passions, Mouthful is bringing his amazing voice to both of our California sessions this summer.
Inspired by artists like Stevie Wonder and Ryan Lamontagne, Mouthful has forged his own unique sound that can easily be accompanied by folk, Americana, jazz, or even R&B music. You’ll find Mouthful with a uklele in hand serenading the masses with hits such as Destiny’s Child “Say My Name” and maybe a Prince cover or too. Grab a blanket, cozy up and be ready to stay up until sunrise listening to this guy belt his heart out.
Royal Jelly Jive
Session I’s camp dance is something you’re not going to want to miss. Royal Jelly Jive is sure to bring you right back to the 1940s with their sultry Gypsy Rock + Soul Jive combo. Their elegant yet rapturous music will make you feel like you’re in a circus dance party.
If John Prine and Mitch Hedberg had a musical baby, it would resemble something very similar to John Craigie. Musically comparable to Prine, with the humor and wit of Hedberg, the humble, gracious, and hilarious Craigie is one of the best storytellers out there.
John Craigie will be joining us for California’s Session II as an Artist in Resident. You’ll find him cracking a joke in a playshop, singing a tune around the campfire, and maybe even catching some Cheetos during Color Wars. He’ll make you laugh. He’ll make you cry. And by the end of camp, you’ll want this guy to be your best friend.
These California ladies sure know how to put on a good show. The Rainbow Girls are coming up to Session II with all the ingredients for an all out dance party. Their wide spectrum of genres is hard to classify, but you’ll be sure to hear some elements of funk, blues, folk, and psychedelic pop when they play.
Each time you see these gals, you can guarantee it’s going to be a different experience than the time before. These ladies have successfully developed two awesome forms of performing: 1) an electric, rock n’ roll, foot stomping spectacular and 2) an acoustic Canteen vibe set based around their sweet sweet harmonies and folk roots.
Prepare to be taken to a land far, far away when you listen to Maz Karandish play any of the dozen of instruments he’s mastered. Karandish is able to bring various forms of music to life with the touch of his sitar. He finds himself devoting the majority of his time to Indian Sitar, Raga vocal practice, and world music. We can’t wait to see what kind of transcendental experiences Maz can help create in the tea lounge and during our morning meditations.
Miles Berry of the Crow and the Canyon
Pacific Northwest’s fan favorite Miles Berry is coming down to grace us with his blues, funk and jazz inspired bass skills as an Artist in Resident during California’s Session II. Berry’s band Crow and the Canyon is a transfixing group from Portland with melodies that touch on all of the emotions we feel when entering a new phase of life, love and creativity; a perfect vibe for Camp Grounded.
He’s bringing his brother Cole along for the ride to create some family music together as part of our Camp Grounded All-Stars Band.
In addition to being brother and son to respected working musicians, Cole actively studies and perform afro brazilian, west african, gypsy/ flamenco, funk, art rock and sludge doom. Get ready to learn the ins and outs of percussion from this dynamic duo during a playshop or two.
With a description like “Once upon a time, people used to make moments… with their hands. Then man came and brought his technology, killing the pixies and fairies…” how could we not invite this duo to Camp Grounded?! HandMade Moments will fill the redwoods with their beatboxing, funky, country bluesy tunes.
Josh Gelfand aka Juice is a Camp Grounded favorite. You’ll find Juice tickling the ivory keys during Session II as an Artist in Resident. This guy will keep you on your toes as he turns even the most intimate of gatherings into a rockin’ dance party.
There’s really nothing like sipping on a cup of delicious tea in the tea yurt while jamming to the sounds of our awesome house bands. We are SO excited to announce that The Tea Spot will be keeping us caffeinated (or relaxed, if you want to go to bed early) all summer long with their high-quality, handcrafted loose leaf teas.
The tea yurt is going to be fully stocked with a wide variety of The Tea Spot’s handcrafted tea blends shipped all the way from the mountains of Boulder, Colorado. We truly love the story behind The Tea Spot and we know you will too. They’re incredible people doing some incredible things for the community and tea lovers everywhere. The woman-owned and operated company was founded by cancer survivor, Maria Uspenski, who learned about the health benefits of whole leaf tea during her recovery. Through her recovery she was inspired to share these benefits with those in need. Now the company pledges ten percent of their sales in-kind to cancer and community wellness programs. Their message is simple: tea in its freshest form renders incredible flavor, unmatched health benefits, and is eco-friendly. It is this goal of helping people live longer, healthier lives by making loose leaf tea an everyday luxury that has made the Tea Spot a certified B-Corporation.
This tea is the real deal. Their selection of hand-picked and organic loose leaf tea supports traditional harvesting methods and offers premium flavor and health benefits. Whether you’ll be snuggled up listening to the melodic sounds of the Wild Reeds or dancing your booties off to Whiskerman, The Tea Spot has guaranteed they’ve got a tea for every moment.
Not only will you find The Tea Spot’s blends steeping at the tea lounge, but you’ll also use their innovative steepware to gulp down that organic and delicious tea goodness. CEO, Maria Uspenski is really a Jill-of-all-trades. Using her traits as a tea enthusiast and mechanical engineer, she created a line of modern teaware to make loose leaf steeping simple and stylish. Our tea tables will be fully equipped with the finest tea cups and pots around. We can’t wait!
Don’t worry, you’ll be able to sip on The Tea Spot’s blends at the Canteen too! Just grab one of their innovative tea sachets for your mug at the start of your day. These ultra-convenient pyramid bags are the perfect companion for a morning stroll through the redwoods. Plus, they’re biodegradable, making the whole process simple and easy.
Trust us, you won’t be able to get enough tea time at camp. Campers who want to bring some tea and Steepware® home can purchase some at the Canteen. And for those who want to relive the aroma and memories of those late night tea parties, you can sign up to get tea delivered right to your door with The Tea Spot’s subscription options.
We are counting down the days until we’re sharing tea with you and The Tea Spot. Learn more about The Tea Spot and their tea offerings by visiting their awesome website.
Long summer days call for something refreshing. Sometimes that’s a dip in the lake, sometimes it’s a drink of water (drink lots and lots of water!) and other times it’s a nice, cold glass of kombucha. We’re excited to announce that Revive Kombucha is joining us for their third year as the official kombucha partner of Camp Grounded!
Not familiar with kombucha? Here’s the lowdown: Kombucha (or “the buch” as you might hear some campers call it) is a fermented beverage made from a live culture known as a SCOBY. What’s a Scoby? SCOBY is an acronym for Symbiotic Colony Of Bacteria and Yeast. Kombucha is produced by fermenting different types of tea using a symbiotic colony of bacteria and yeast. The result is a lightly effervescent fermented drink that’s organic, vegan, raw, and oh so delicious.
Revive Kombucha is the only drink you’ll find on tap during our California camps. They’ve created an awesome custom-made kombucha bar to serve up the bubbly goodness all weekend long. So drink a glass or two from the bar and instead of a hangover (remember: camp is a booze free zone) you’ll feel a little caffeine buzz. This will help you dancie the night away in the tea yurt and have a little extra pep in your step when you’re practicing your synchronized swimming routine. In addition to boosting your energy, kombucha helps improve digestion (in case you have a little too much mac & cheese) and detoxes the body (like Condor’s sweat lodge). At our other sites, you’ll find Revive in their awesome new 11 oz bottles. They’re the perfect size to guzzle down before you run off to a playshop or yoga session.
You’ll be able to gulp down some Revive kombucha at the Canteen, a place at camp where you can snack between meals as well as pick up some camp swag. Everything we sell at the Canteen comes from companies we know, love, and believe in. We love (and believe in) Revive. Their sustainable business practices are amazing and their product is even better.
Not only do the folks over at Revive do their part to help the planet, but they also provide the best buch on the market. Each one of their flavors is a unique brew with its own culture, ferment and production process. They source the highest quality ingredients and focus on buying organic, non-gmo, fair-trade or farm direct ingredients. Even the smallest of details matters to them! They’ve gone above and beyond to ensure that each of their brews is 100% pure water. They even cold-press all of their own juice in house. Now that’s dedication! To take it a step further, they went ahead and got their own industrial coffee grinder, to make sure their brew comes from the freshest ground coffee and tea around. When you take a sip of their bubbly goodness, you’ll be sure to taste an explosion of flavor. They extract and create their own bitters, extracts and flavors, never settling for what exists in the marketplace. As you can see, they love what they do (and so do we).
Plus, Northern California Revive customers can participate in their awesome Bottle Exchange Program. Customers pay a deposit to ensure their bottle is returned for reuse after being inspected and washed. The bottles have had a 75% return rate over the past five years. Not in Northern California? Don’t worry. Their new 11 oz. bottles are recyclable and don’t involve a deposit or exchange. As an organization that’s dedicated to keeping our campsite (and our planet) cleaner than we found it, that’s something we love to hear!
Our tummies and taste buds are thrilled to be able to have Revive with us all summer long. Be sure to check out their website and watch this awesome video to get your tummy excited too!
Last month we headed up to the University of Nevada, Reno with an all-star crew to bring our Digital Detox Analog Zone experience to a whole new audience: college students. Sure we’ve had a handful of younger campers, but we have never created an entire event for a student body. It was a blast!
Today’s college students are the beginning of a new wave of people; people who don’t know what life without a screen. They’re the Digital Natives and arguably the group that needs the most support taking a Digital Detox.
As part of UNR’s Wellness Week program, we brought all of the makings for an analog good time. We had arts n crafts, our famous Embers dating profiles, face painting, and our giant Mongolian yurt filled with tea service and amazing live musical performances.
Students fist wandered by the Analog Zone nervously, but after a few games and some dots of face paint they were turning off their phones and heading into the tea yurt for some time away from their screen. It was inspiring to see the impacts made on the student body! The Analog Zone provided them with a chance to stop, breathe and connect with their fellow students. As one student put it, “‘I think the whole entire theme of [Wednesday] was ‘let’s be human again,’ ‘Let’s interact with each other and get down to what the basic core of our lives are supposed to be like without the distractions of technology.'”

Recently, North Carolina’s governor signed a bill into law, HB2, which officially excludes all LGBTQ+ humans from protection against discrimination. With this new law, it is now legal in North Carolina to fire or refuse service to someone, simply because they are gay or transgender. In addition to this, HB2 prohibits transgender people from using bathrooms that match their gender identity.
We here at Camp Grounded are disgusted and outraged by this law. It is designed to exclude the LGBTQ+ community from their basic human rights. We are in direct opposition to this fearful and bigoted mindset and understand why artists like Bruce Springsteen and companies like PayPal and General Electric have chosen to boycott North Carolina. In fact, we have even considered joining this boycott, and not just because we’re huge fans of The Boss. But after deep discussion and thought, we are choosing a different path.
In response to the HB2 Law, we are proud to announce… Camp Grounded’s Genderful Village! A village for all genders.
Alongside the Male and Female Villages, the Genderful Village will exist so that EVERYONE can feel included and safe at Camp Grounded. By creating this village, we are establishing a home at camp for our campers that don’t identify as male or female, or even for those who do, but appreciate the importance of gender fluid spaces. This is not a radical move, but rather an overdue and common sense decision to step away from a binary system that leaves many members of our community feeling unseen and unwelcome. We will proudly be bringing the Genderful Village to our North Carolina, New York, and Texas camps.
At Camp Grounded, we love who you are! We know that the world has made choosing a bathroom or a cabin a political act for some, but not here. At camp, you’ll spend less time worrying about bathrooms and more time singing songs and making friends. This law won’t stop us from continuing to provide a safe place for everyone, regardless of who they are. (And after all, the best part of having rules is getting to break them!)
We have discussed this with our wonderful hosts at Camp Pinnacle and they are totally on board and have written a statement of opposition to HB2, urging a full repeal. With any luck, people will hear about what we’re doing and it will inspire them to do the same. The only way to fight hate is with love. The only way to fight exclusion is with inclusion. Together, we will share the value and power of a fully inclusive community.
We hope to see you at Camp this summer,
The Camp Grounded Family
Our North Carolina camp partner, Camp Pinnacle, wrote a letter of opposition for the HB2 law. We are proud to be partnering with an incredible camp that is dedicated to the acceptance, celebration and inclusivitiy of all.
Read their letter below:
“Pinnacle Adventures, LLC, parent company of Camp Pinnacle is fostering an open, welcoming, and inclusive community that respects each individual. We remain steadfast in our policies of nondiscrimination and inclusion for all of our campers, students, counselors, staff, alumni, and visitors.
We deplore in the strongest possible terms our new state law, HB2, that prevents municipalities from establishing laws that protect members of the LGBTQ+ community and others from discrimination and eliminates some economic advancement opportunities from underrepresented communities. Put simply, HB 2 is not a bill that reflects the values of Pinnacle Adventures, LLC.
As a company that prides ourselves on being inclusive and welcoming to all, we strongly urge a full repeal of HB2. In spirit and in letter, this new law runs counter to the ideals of Pinnacle Adventures– and, we believe, to those of the great state of North Carolina.
